THE HOTEL AND RESTAURANT IN “W STARYM MŁYNIE” (IN THE OLD MILL). I WILL START WITH THIS – BECAUSE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT TRAVEL IS GOOD ACCOMMODATION AND TASTY FOOD. LOCATED ABOUT 5 km FROM MILICZ, THE „IN THE OLD MILL” INN INCLUDES 9 ROOMS WITH BATHROOMS AND A SMALL RESTAURANT.

QUITE SPACIOUS, BASIC EQUIPPED ROOMS OFFER REASONABLE COMFORT FOR SHORT-TERM TRAVELLERS. THOSE WHO STAY LONGER MAY COMPLAIN ABOUT THE LACK OF LARGER PLACES PRETENDING WARDROBES. EVERYTHING IS CLEAN AND NEW. THE ONLY WEAK POINT IN OUR ROOM WAS THE LACK OF A TRASH CAN – BUT WE HAD A BASKET IN THE BATHROOM. CREAKING FLOORS ABOVE SOME ROOMS ON THE THIRD FLOOR MAY SLIGHTLY ANNOY THOSE MORE SENSITIVE. IF THIS BOTHERS YOU, BOOK YOURSELF SLEEPING ON IV FLOOR.

THE CAR PARK IS LARGE ENOUGH TO ACCOMMODATE ALL GUESTS. THE ENTIRE HOTEL STAFF WORKED HARD ALL THE TIME TO PROVIDE GUESTS WITH THE COMFORT OF REST.

BREAKFAST – ADDED – OR NOT – TO THE ROOM BILL, IS RELIABLE. YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM: CHEF’S TOAST, SCRAMBLED EGGS AND SAUSAGES (HOT DISHES). BESIDES: YELLOW CHEESE, COTTAGE CHEESE, CRACOW STYLE SAUSAGE (?), HAM, BRAWN (LOCAL PRODUCT – HURRY UP! IT GOES OFF QUICKLY). MUESLI AND OTHER SUCH INVENTIONS, WILL PLEASE MANY PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT THE LINE. THERE ARE ALSO A FEW FRUITS – WE TASTED THE WATERMELON. TO DRINK: COFFEE, TEA, JUICE, MILK, WATER. BREAKFAST SERVED AT THE CUSTOMER’S CONVENIENCE.

IN THE HOTEL RESTAURANT EVERYONE WILL FIND SOMETHING FOR THEMSELVES. THERE IS A LOT OF CARP HERE, HOWEVER THERE ARE OTHER FISHES TOO. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE BONY WATER CREATURES, YOU HAVE A CHOICE OF PORK CHOP (NO BONE), FEW DIFFERENT KINDS OF MEAT, PASTA, SOUP. GOOD FOOD – WE WERE HERE A FEW DAYS AND TRIED EVERYTHING, INCLUDING THOSE SOLD IN JARS – LOCAL CARP IN ASPIC WITH VINEGAR AND FISH BALLS.

CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT WITHIN A RADIUS OF SEVERAL KILOMETRES IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND SOMETHING INTERESTING TO EAT, THE RESTAURANT KITCHEN IS BREAKING RECORDS OF POPULARITY. THIS ADDITIONALLY SPEAK IN FAVOUR OF CHOOSING THIS PLACE AS A STARTING BASE.

KROSNICE- WIERZCHOWICE – A NARROW-GAUGE RAILWAY

.

SIGHTSEEING – INTERESTING PLACES WITHIN A RADIUS OF UP TO 40 km

HATZFELD PALACE IN ZMIGROD – A PALACE AND PARK COMPLEX. A GOTHIC RESIDENTIAL TOWER AND THE FACADE OF THE BAROQUE PALACE.

ACTUALLY, NOT THE PALACE, BUT THE REMAINS OF IT. THE SOVIETS, PASSING HERE HAD PLUNDERED WHAT THEY COULD, AND BURNED THE REST. CURRENTLY, THE TOUR INCLUDES LOOKING INTO THE MEDIEVAL TOWER AND A WALK AROUND THE CONTOURS OF THE PALACE. TODAY THE FACADE IS THE MOST INTERESTING PART OF THE EXHIBITION. ALL THIS TAKES 15 MINUTES.

ONE DEFINITELY HAVE TO SPEND MORE TIME ON THE PARK SURROUNDING THE RUINS. SPACIOUS, BEAUTIFULLY MAINTAINED AND WELL-MANAGED PLACE ATTRACTS LARGE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE. SECLUDED PLACES, BENCHES, ALLEYS, PONDS, A FOUNTAIN AND QUITE WELL DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF INDIVIDUAL ELEMENTS OF FLORA, WILL PROBABLY APPEAL TO EVERYONE.
ADMISSION FREE. IT IS WORTHWHILE STOPPING HERE BY AT LEAST FOR SEVERAL DOZEN MINUTES. A 60-MINUTE BREAK FROM EVERYDAY LIFE, NEEDED FOR VIEWING THE PALACE AND PARK COMPLEX SEEMS TO ME A MEGA COOL CHOICE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

CHURCH OF St. CHARLES BORROMEO IN RADZIADZ – A BAROQUE CHURCH FROM 1735 IS JUST IN THE PROCESS OF RENOVATION. INTERESTING THE BUILDING ITSELF, AND SEVERAL GRAVESTONES ON THE LEFT FROM THE ENTRANCE TO THE PROPERTY.

OBSERVATION POINT OF THE BIRD’S LIFE ON THE EDGE OF NIEZGODA POND IN THE VILLAGE OF ZGODA.
FOR LOVERS OF BIRD WATCHING, A LARGE WOODEN HUT WAS BUILT IN THE REEDS BED. COOL. WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A HOT DAY AND DID NOT NOTICE MANY FLYING ONES. I THINK WE SHOULD TO BE HERE MUCH EARLIER. BUT THEN I AM USUALLY STILL SLEEPING … 🙂

BORDER BOOM GATE IN BARANOWICE.
ONCE A BORDER OF TWO STRUGGLING STATES, TODAY AN INTERESTING CURIOSITY. THAT’S HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE EVERYWHERE! A 15-min. TRAVEL BREAK WILL DO WELL TO EVERYONE. DRIVE OVER IF YOU ARE NEARBY.

DE SAS VINEYARD
THE BOUTIQUE VINEYARD PRODUCES SELECTION OF WINES FROM 7 VINE VARIETIES: GEWÜRZTRAMINER, RIESLING, SOLARIS, REGENT, PINOT NOIR, PINOT GRIS, DORNFELDER. PRODUCTION IS BASED ON ECOLOGICAL METHODS. THE COMPANY SUPPLIES PRODUCTS TO MANY RESTAURANTS IN THE COUNTRY. THE LOCAL CIDER ENJOYS GREAT POPULARITY. APART FROM MANUFACTURING THE WINE AND THE CIDER, THE VINEYARD ALSO DEALS IN AGRITOURISM, OFFERING A 7-ROOM COTTAGE FOR THE GUESTS. IN ADDITION, THERE ARE ORGANIZED ALL KINDS OF WINE-CONNECTED EVENTS: TASTINGS, COURSES, EXHIBITIONS, CONCERTS … WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

THE NARROW GAUGE RAILWAY IN KROSNICE – WIERZCHOWICE
THE JOURNEY  AROUND THE PARK TAKES 25 MINUTES. THE WHOLE IS AVERAGE ATTRACTIVE, HOWEVER THE CHILDREN WILL BE DELIGHTED. IN MY OPINION THE MOST INTERESTING IS THE PREPARATION OF A STEAM LOCOMOTIVE FOR DRIVING.
DO NOT FORGET THE PENSIONER’S ID CARD. IT ENTITLES YOU TO 30% DISCOUNT. A 25-MINUTE CIRCLE RIDE IS AVAILABLE FROM FRIDAY TO MONDAY INCLUSIVE. ON FRIDAY AND MONDAY THERE IS ONLY ONE RIDE AT 1 p.m. A DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE IS PULLING RAILROAD CARS. ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, THE ROUTE OVERCOMES THE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE PULLING THE WAGONS. DEPARTURES HOURLY BETWEEN 11 a.m. AND 6 p.m.
NOTE: IF YOU ARE A LARGE GROUP, THEN IT IS WISEST TO DIVIDE IT INTO AT LEAST TWO PARTS, USING THE TRAIN AT TWO DIFFERENT DEPARTING TIMES. ACTING IN THIS WAY, THE SECOND GROUP WILL USE A 25% DISCOUNT, THAT WILL BE RECEIVED BY THE FIRST GROUP BUYING TICKETS SOLD WHILE DRIVING.

MILICZ PONDS
A HUGE NUMBER (OVER 300) OF FISH PONDS LYING IN THE LARGE EXTENSIONS OF THE BARYCZ VALLEY, NEAR MILICZ AND ZMIGROD, COVERS AN AREA OF APPROXIMATELY 77 km². MANY OF THEM ALONG WITH THE INFRASTRUCTURE HAVE BEEN DEVASTATED – OVERGROWN, WITH NO PROPER FLOW OF WATER DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE OF CHANNELS, WEIRS AND CULVERTS. AS A COMPLEX, HOWEVER, IT STILL CONSTITUTES A UNIQUE TECHNICAL MONUMENT. PONDS WERE FOUNDED BY THE CISTERCIANS IN THE 13th CENTURY. CURRENTLY, FISH-PONDS ARE THE LARGEST CARP BREEDING CENTER IN EUROPE AND THE LARGEST NATURE RESERVE IN POLAND. IN 1963, A WATERFOWL AND MARSH RESERVE WAS ESTABLISHED HERE. 276 SPECIES LIVE HERE (INCLUDING: CRANE, MUTE SWAN, GREYLAG GOOSE, LESSER SPOTTED EAGLE, WHITE-TAILED EAGLE, RED KITE AND OTHERS). LISTED ON LIVING LAKES LIST.

RUDA MILICKA – FORESTER’S LODGE (19th CENTURY)
FORMER FORESTER’S LODGE OF MALTZAN FAMILY FROM THE SECOND HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY. FOR ME, DEFINITELY UNINTERESTING. IT TAKES 10 MINUTES TO WATCH – INCLUDING PARKING. IN MY OPINION WASTE OF TIME.

MILICZ
SEE THE CHURCH OF St. ANDRZEJ BOBOLA; HUGE, 50 ha PARK AROUND THE ANCIENT CLASSICAL PALACE OF THE MALTZAN FAMILY, CURRENTLY OCCUPIED BY THE FOREST TECHNICAL SCHOOL AND THE RUINS OF A MEDIEVAL STRONGHOLD.

BUILT BETWEEN 1709 AND 1714, THE LUTHERAN CHURCH – WHAT IS EASY TO GET TO KNOW – WAS TAKEN OVER BY THE STATE IN 1945 AND IMMEDIATELY HANDED OVER TO THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH. CURRENTLY IS REFURBISHING FROM OUTSIDE. WATCHING TAKES UP TO 15 MINUTES.

IT IS WORTH TAKING A WALK DOWN A ALLEY SURROUNDED BY A ROW OF CENTURIES-OLD TREES OF THIS ENGLISH-STYLE PARK. IT RUNS BETWEEN MLYNOWKA AND BARYCZ RIVER, STRETCHING FROM THE MAIN ENTRANCE TO THE PARK, GUARDED BY A STONE LION LYING ON THE PLINTH. ARRIVING AT THE PLACE WHERE ON THE LEFT GROWS A HUGE TREE AND HAVING TURNED RIGHT, ONE WILL REACH THE BARYCZ RIVERSIDE OVERGROWN WITH GREENERY. CHOOSING THIS ROUTE ONE WILL GO FOR SOME TIME BY THE ALEJE PIASTOW, ALONG THE BACK FACADE OF THE PALACE. IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE FRONT OF THIS HUGE BUILDING AND THE REMAINS OF A MEDIEVAL FORTIFICATION, YOU HAVE TO TURN RIGHT BEFORE, OR JUST BEHIND THE AFOREMENTIONED LION. IT’S WORTH SPENDING 60 MINUTES PLUS TO SEE THIS COMPLEX. THE TIME NEEDED DEPENDS ON HOW LONG ONE WANT TO WALK THROUGH THE PARK AVENUES AND HUGE NUMBER OF GRAVEL PATHS. THE WHOLE ON AVERAGE INTERESTING, BUT FANS OF NATURE WILL BE DELIGHTED.

ONE CAN ALSO COME TO THE MILICZ MARKET FOR A MOMENT. QUITE NICE, ALTHOUGH A FEW POST-WAR RATHER UGLY BUILDINGS DISFIGURE HIM. THE RESIDENTS’ ACTIVITY DOES NOT MAKE IMPRESSIVE.

OLD MILL (WINDMILL) IN DUCHOWO FROM 1671.

WELL VISIBLE FROM THE ROAD OBJECT, IS DEFINITELY WORTH A VISIT. IN FRONT OF THE ENTRANCE THERE IS A SMALL MONUMENT OF THE INHABITANTS OF THIS AND ANOTHER VILLAGE WHO DIED DURING THE FIRST WAR. NEXT TO IT IS A RECENTLY BUILT BUILDING HOUSING A SMALL CHAMBER TYPE MUSEUM, WHERE YOU WILL FIND A LOT OF EXHIBITS RELATED TO AGRARIAN PRODUCTION IN THIS AREA. THERE IS ALSO A PLAYGROUND FOR CHILDREN. THE MILL ITSELF ONE CAN VISITING WITH THE GUIDE EXPLAINING THE WAY THE WINDMILL WORKS AND DESCRIBING ITS HISTORY. ADMISSION FREE. IT’S WORTH SPENDING HERE 30 MINUTES + HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
