TRAVEL IN RETIREMENT

Let’s assume we’re Wombat and Traveller. We’re “recycled teens” – a slightly older couple of retirees — travel enthusiasts in our golden years. Sort of “E.F.E.” wandering the world.

We will make this blog very friendly for people with poor eyesight and who are not skilled with computers. That’s why we use a large font and try to add as many links (redirects) as possible to interesting and important websites. This should provide our readers with maximum information without the need for tedious web surfing.

You’ll find two unusually named tabs on our blog. The first is “On the Road.”
Whether we are somewhere in the world or preparing for another trip, this is where we will comment on what we are doing. It is a kind of rough draft divided among each of us.

The second recommended tab – ‘Shortcuts’ – is for those who are looking for specific information about a given place and, e.g, do not have time to read entire posts. Here, you’ll find essential information about interesting places, accommodations, transportation, food, sightseeing, sample prices, etc.

We’ve seen a bit, and we’d love to see the rest. We love encountering new flavours. All kinds. We believe that, if others can eat something, we can try it, too.
Meeting new people is our passion. That’s why we like almost everyone. Almost, because some would like to eat us, and those who hunt us. We tend to avoid those…

One of us lived in Italy for over five years and in Australia for about 20 years. The other has been coming to Italy every year for almost 25 years and has lived in France for some time.
Together, we managed to visit: Argentina, Australia, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Borneo, Brazil, China, Croatia, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Ecuador, the Philippines, France, Greece, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraqi Kurdistan (Kurdish Autonomous Region), Japan, Cambodia, Kenya, Colombia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritius, Germany, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, Uruguay, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, the Galapagos Islands, and Easter Island.
Furthermore, each of us has traveled the world, either individually or in company. We’ve seen Nepal, Mexico, Morocco, Jordan, Egypt, Denmark, Norway, Ireland, Syria, Jordan, Bulgaria, Croatia, the former Yugoslavia, East Germany, and Singapore.

We communicate using one of three – sorry, four – languages we know: Polish, English, Italian, and French. Sometimes we use a vaguely familiar Russian, Spanish, and shades of the Czech and Slovakian languages.

Finding useful information for people who enjoy travelling, either without or with minimal assistance from travel agencies, isn’t easy. We are referring to tourists who are satisfied with a small en suite room with air conditioning, preferably without breakfast. People who like to do what they want, when they want. They are not fond of trekking through rough terrain. Still, they love wandering around museums, art galleries, exhibitions and all kinds of interesting places. They seek out interesting and exotic dishes, eaten wherever the hygiene conditions are reasonable.

We’ve been online since 2013. Before, yes, we published photos with descriptions — but these were more photo reports than journals.

While trying to find the information we needed to plan our first long-distance trips, we encountered significant difficulties. We spent lots of time gathering useful data. As it turned out, this info made our travels much easier. We wouldn’t feel good if we didn’t share this hard-earned, valuable information and insights with a wide range of curious travellers. That is the main reason we decided to try our hand at blogging…

In 2020, our blog began to suffer. It had an outdated theme that was unable to keep up with the software updates needed to run it properly. Additionally, the computer I used to process media files broke down. On top of all that, E.F.E. slowly began to creep into our lives. All this greatly slowed down the work necessary to revive our blog…

We hope you enjoy this new instalment of the adventures of “recycled teens” on the run …

Archived entries will slowly return to their place…

So here it is – Our Blog
